The City of Bydgoszcz obtained the funding of €2.5 m from the ELENA initiative (European Local Energy Assistance) under the European Union Horizon 2020 program for the implementation of the project entitled “BYDGOSZCZ ENERGY – programme to increase the energy efficiency of buildings and public lighting in Bydgoszcz”.

The Investment Programme will cover two areas:

1) deep energy renovation of 59 public utility buildings (mainly educational institutions) with RES integration and installation of a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that will include the management and monitoring of the electricity and of the thermal power,

2) comprehensive modernisation of the street lighting.

Every investment component will have a great impact on energy savings, will improve the environment and significantly reduce the CO₂ emissions in the city.

For the purposes of the implementation of the above-mentioned investments, it is necessary to perform energy audits to develop technical design documentation and to obtain appropriate administrative (decision) permits. Such large comprehensive investments require the support of specialists, designers and business analysts.

ELENA PDS will give the City of Bydgoszcz an opportunity to optimally design the scope of deep energy renovation (for each facility individually) and modernise the street lightning. With the ELENA PDS support provided to the City of Bydgoszcz, the city will have the possibility to prepare the energy efficiency renovations of public infrastructure in a professional, cost- and time- efficient way.

Thanks to ELENA PDS, the City of Bydgoszcz will be able to obtain the technical and financial expertise needed by the City to prepare and publish investment tenders for deep renovation of public buildings and street lighting.

In addition, the City of Bydgoszcz, using the ELENA PDS, will be building their own capacity to continue the renovation process with own resources in the future.
